Manchester United face a visit to Stamford Bridge to play Chelsea…

The winter break was a boring one for the fans of both Chelsea and Manchester United. However, the players would have been thankful to get some much-needed rest.

The two sides knew that upon their return, they would be playing in perhaps a season-defining match. This game is important for both teams as they are both in the running for a top-four finish.

Chelsea sit nervously in fourth place, with Tottenham’s win yesterday narrowing the gap to just one point. Manchester United, though, have some catching up to do as they sit in 9th place.

So, without further ado, here are three reasons why I think Manchester United will beat Chelsea…

1. Inspiration from rivals Manchester City

The big news last week was that the Premier League champions, Manchester City, would be banned for two seasons from all UEFA competitions. They are set to appeal a ban but it looks likely that due to breaking financial fair play rules, they will have to serve the ban.

This is great news for Premier League clubs. While it is yet to be confirmed, it’s likely that the team that finishes in fifth place will claim their way into the Champions League next season.

Consequently, Manchester United will have more fire in them than ever before. They will take each game as an opportunity to climb further towards that fifth place, which they are just five points away from with a game in hand. It’s all to play for and it starts against Chelsea.
