It’s been revealed why Mikel Arteta left the Frenchman out of Arsenal’s matchday squad against Newcastle…

Arsenal had a very good weekend. In fact, it was their best of the season as they humiliated Newcastle by a scoreline of 4-0.

Among the scoreline was Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Nicolas Pepe, Mesut Ozil and Alexandre Lacazette, the four players who needed a goal the most.

However, heading into the match, there was plenty of talk on social media as to why Matteo Guendouzi was left out of the starting lineup and even the subs bench.

More from Arsenal FC

Arteta is known to favour a midfield pairing of Lucas Torreira and Granit Xhaka but he’s never one to leave Guendouzi off the bench.

It has been revealed by Charles Watts of Goal that Guendouzi was dropped from the squad due to an argument he had with Arteta and the Arsenal staff during their winter break in Dubai. Indeed, the report goes further to say that he now faces a battle to save his Arsenal career.

The last thing Arsenal fans would want is to lose Guendouzi. He has been one of their most important players over the last few seasons after making his breakthrough against Manchester City last season.

Guendouzi is an attack-minded midfielder that likes to drive the ball forward with aplomb and use his range of passing to involve the runs of attackers.

This box-to-box nature is something that fans have missed since losing Aaron Ramsey to Juventus.

It’s important to mention that Arteta is not the type to pin a vendetta against any player so this report must have some truth to it.

However, it remains to be seen whether Guendouzi was in the wrong but if this is the case, the players around him must be mature enough to inform him.

Guendouzi is a top talent and he is surely one for the future of Arsenal football club. Consequently, this issue must be resolved before it spirals out of control. It would not only benefit Arsenal but also Guendouzi’s future as a player.
