Inter Milan may turn to Premier League for Lautaro Martinez replacement
Inter Milan set to cast their net on the Premier League should they need to find a replacement for Lautaro Martinez.
Inter Milan is full of former Premier League figures. On their team, they have Romelu Lukaku, Alexis Sanchez, Ashley Young, Victor Moses and Christian Eriksen. Their manager, Antonio Conte, even used to coach Chelsea.
The point is they are not afraid to dip their toes in England and sign players that have either struggled or have been deemed a lost cause. They may very well have to go back to find someone to replace one of their star strikers soon.
According to SempreInter, the Nerazzurri are reportedly interested in Arsenal’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang should they lose Lautaro Martinez in the summer.
The club feel that Aubameyang would be a decent fit and would complement Romelu Lukaku in the attack.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta knows that Aubameyang may be a hot commodity once the season ends and that Aubameyang wants to play Champions League football.
According to The Guardian, he said,
"“I think it’s been tough for him. You know a player like him, there’s been a lot of disappointments in the last few months and years because he has big expectations. You know he wants to play for the biggest club in the biggest tournaments, and be up there with the best players in the world. And we have to try to support him and give him everything at the club so he really feels fulfilled here. That’s the challenge I have.”"
Despite the rumors, Arteta is optimistic that he can convince the player to stay.
As for Inter, they know hanging on to Martinez may be difficult to do as he’s drawn interest from the likes of Real Madrid and Barcelona. Lionel Messi even came out in an interview and stated that he would be a welcome addition to the team.
With Barcelona needing to find a replacement for Luis Suarez, the Catalans have set their sights on the Inter Milan and would be willing enough to satisfy the Serie A side.
Aubameyang’s contract ends in 2021 so Inter would need to pay Arsenal should they want to pry the Gabonese striker away from the North London side. Where Arsenal finish may end up playing a role in his decision as, at the very least, Inter look destined to play in the Champions League next season.
