Arsenal 1-2 Olympiacos: 5 talking points – Mustafi played his part
By Kian Long
Shkodran Mustafi was phenomenal
The cult hero of this match was undoubtedly Shkodran Mustafi. While he could have done better to defend the corner for the first goal, this was by no means an individual error. If anything, Mustafi was the best player on the pitch.
There were times where Arsenal invited an uncomfortable amount of pressure but on a few occasions, Mustafi put his body on the line to give his side a chance in the match. It’s just a shame he was substituted off through injury and the result didn’t go his way.
Mikel Arteta has turned Shkodran Mustafi into a real defensive mastermind and his positioning has improved massively. I for one am excited to see the future of Mustafi under Arteta.
Arsenal would be screwed without Aubameyang
When you have a player like Aubameyang on your side, anything is possible. It will always feel like a game is never over and that’s the experience Arsenal fans felt tonight.
Yes, Aubameyang could have won the game all over again with his last kick of the game but he should keep his head held high.
It’s easier said than done, obviously, but the Gabon international was the only fire in Arsenal’s attack and without him, they wouldn’t have even stood a chance. Arsenal need to do all they can to keep him in the summer for his presence is priceless.
