3. Real Madrid in the driver’s seat

In terms of the league standings, Real Madrid now find themselves atop the table looking down at Barcelona. In the week leading up to the match, most of the talk was how if Barcelona won, then they’d all but sealed the title.

With the win, the roles are reversed. It is only a one point lead but it means that Real Madrid are no longer the team chasing.

Zinedine Zidane‘s team depend on themselves if they want to win LaLiga. It’s Barcelona who have to rely on other teams if Madrid are to drop points.

Madrid did not lose either Clasico and it was the first time since 1975 that they were able to keep Barcelona from scoring in either of the two matches. In big games, Madrid’s defense has kept them in the game and they stepped up once again.

It’s also the first time Zidane won a league Clasico at the Bernabeu.

The league title is Madrid’s to lose. There are still a lot of matches to be played and it’s easy to see  both sides dropping points from here until the end of the season. But as it stands, it’s hard not to see Real Madrid as favorites.
