The tense situation between player and club could work out in Real Madrid’s favor.

Real Madrid may have just been handed a boost in their drawn out pursuit of PSG’s Kylian Mbappe. The honeymoon appears to be over with the Spanish giants looking to take advantage.

The latest dust-up has to do with the upcoming Olympic Games. The French star is eager to represent his country in the Olympics in Tokyo but PSG are standing in the way.

According to Marca, via L’Equipe, the Parisian side have sent a letter to the French Football Federation stating that they are opposed to their 21-year-old star representing his country.

As it stands, the Tokyo games are in doubt as the threat of the coronavirus is becoming more imminent as the days go by.

When it comes to the Olympics, PSG are not demanded to release any of their players as it is not a FIFA event. Also, because they are playing so many games, their plan is for Mbappe to rest.

This is only the latest chapter in an ever-expanding sage between them with Mbappe becoming more and more disgruntled.

Over the course of the season, he’s gotten on the bad side of the PSG supporters and had a public rift with the manager, Thomas Tuchel. He was unhappy with being substituted in a game and threw a fit when Tuchel attempted to calm him down.

Seeing the friction, Real Madrid believe a move for Mbappe would be likelier given how poor the relationship has gotten.

Again, Madrid have made no secret that they like the player and have been chasing him for nearly two years now. With the departures of players like James Rodriguez and Gareth Bale opening up significant space in the wage bill, Madrid would be in a position to offer more in terms of wages.

Mbappe’s contract runs out in 2022 but he himself could force a move. He also hasn’t made it a secret that his dream is to end up at Real Madrid like his idol Zinedine Zidane who is currently the manager.

With Barcelona once again reportedly interested in Neymar, PSG face the real possibility of both Spanish giants coming in and taking their two best players. They may be more willing to let Neymar leave but are going to fight tooth and nail to hang on to Mbappe.
