David de Gea is simply not at Real Madrid level anymore…
There was once a point in time where David de Gea was the best goalkeeper in the world. It’s true. He had Real Madrid chasing his name, was winning trophies for Manchester United and he was genuinely performing better than the likes of Manuel Neuer.
However, nowadays it would be a stretch to even consider him top three in the Premier League. Alisson is simply levels ahead of him, Ederson has performed better over the last few seasons and Bernd Leno is staking a claim given his lifesaving performances. Heck, Kepa Arrizabalaga hasn’t even been playing and even he put in a world-class performance against Liverpool lately.
The truth is, David de Gea is still a good goalkeeper. I’m not going to sit here and deny that, I simply can’t. However, to say he is Real Madrid level would be ridiculous.

De Gea has made many mistakes this season and although the statistics may not present the whole story, he has been untrustworthy at times. These are silly mistakes, granted, but if he were to make them under Zinedine Zidane, he wouldn’t be anywhere near as lenient as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
This is why I find the news from The Sun hard to believe. I mean, I always take these reports with a pinch of salt but they have claimed Real Madrid are considering a fresh swoop for David de Gea in the summer. Surely not.
Real Madrid should be grateful they have the services of Thibaut Courtois. Yes, he may have taken a while to settle in at the Santiago Bernabeu but now he is part of the culture, he is really loving life. He has the most clean sheets in all of La Liga and although he has been helped by a terrific defence, he is not going to be replaced anytime soon.
Do you think Real Madrid need to sign David de Gea?
