Everything you need to know about Southampton’s Jan Bednarek
Teams Bednarek could be suited for
If one takes a look at the teams that could benefit from picking up a defensive talent like Bednarek, there are a few particular teams that come to mind. The first of these is the aforementioned Leicester City.
The Foxes have been doing quite well for themselves, sitting pretty in third this season, and they could offer Bednarek a step up in both pressure and responsibility. Leicester themselves could do with a revamp at the position.

Both Johnny Evans and Wes Morgan are well into their 30’s and it would behove the side to start looking for potential, more youthful heirs that can keep them competitive in the long run.
I would be very interested to see how Söyüncü and Bednarek would slot in together, and of course would love to see Bednarek make a Champions League berth.
Wolverhampton Wanderers could also make a good candidate for Bednarek’s next step in his career. In a similar tier to Leicester city, this too is a team that is punching above its weight at the moment and could find itself in a very nice position come the end of the season.
With the prospect of European football to look forward to, be it Europa League or a potential Champions League berth, this too could be an enticing prospect for both Bednarek and the club.
Interestingly enough, I also think Arsenal could benefit from a defender like Bednarek. While at first this may seem a step too far, Bednarek’s attributes could fit quite well into the Gunner’s back line.
A common trend that has arisen during Arsenal games is their unquestionable inability to defend set pieces. if one simply looks at the Gunner’s most recent game against Olympiakos, both goals came from the team’s inability to either clear the ball or mark the opposition properly in the box, something that Bednarek has shown a propensity for and excelled at while with Southhampton.
His tall frame and ability to read the game allows him to be in the right place and the right time to win critical headers, something Arsenal could have used in quite a few of their outings this season.
That, and with recent comment made by Arsenal Manager Mikel Arteta regarding a lack of Champions League football putting a financial strain on the club, Bednarek could be a more affordable way to revamp a defense that clearly needs new blood.
Whatever the case may be, it is undeniable that Jan Bednarek has made immense strides and improvements since his days in the Polish Ekstraklasa.
He has proven he can be a pivotal player for a Premier League side; one that is able to shoulder the defensive burden of playing in one of the world’s most physical and competitive leagues, whilst putting up consistently impressive numbers over this season.
I would be surprised to see Bednarek stay at Southampton much longer, as the quality he offers deserves to be on display in the upper echelons of the footballing world.
