I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again; David de Gea is not at Real Madrid’s level.

It feels like a lifetime ago since Real Madrid’s fax machine screwed them over. I’m sure everyone can recall the day. It seemed inevitable that David de Gea would be a Real Madrid player on deadline day but faulty machinery meant the deal couldn’t be pushed over the line in time.

Well, fast forward a few years and it now seems like this was a blessing in disguise. I mean, for one it taught Real Madrid to get a better machine and two, it meant they dodged the bullet that is de Gea.

There was once a period in time where it was safe to say de Gea was the best goalkeeper in the world. Believe me, I was one of those that screamed this from the rooftops. But in football, nothing is permanent and the form of the Spaniard has taken a toll in the last few seasons.

More from Real Madrid

Now, it has been reported by the Daily Star that Real Madrid will consider a move for Kepa Arrizabalaga and all I can say is, hallelujah. It’s about time Madrid moved on from de Gea and looked at fresh alternatives.

It’s ironic how Los Blancos have gone back to Stamford Bridge since this is from where they acquired Thibaut Courtois, who seems to be doing well now that he’s settled down in the footballing capital.

Kepa has been going through a rough ride of things in the Chelsea camp this season and it’s all because of what happened at the end of last season.

There was a power struggle between him and Maurizio Sarri which resulted in Kepa refusing to be substituted for Willy Caballero in a penalty shootout.

This is one side to Kepa which Real Madrid must be wary of. He is quite a, let’s say, sticky character at times to deal with. He can sometimes not react well to authority so if Zidane is to land him in September, he will need to drill a sense of sportsmanship into him.

Next. Real Madrid are better off without David de Gea. dark

Do you think Real Madrid should sign Kepa in the summer?
