Paul Pogba has made a bold decision regarding his Manchester United future…

It’s the summer of 2016 and life is good. The weather is hot, the European championships are on (to this day I still have no idea how Portugal won the thing). And Paul Pogba has rejoined his boyhood club Manchester United for a world-record fee.

Cast your mind forward to 2020 and not only has that record been broken multiple times, but Pogba is not the player everybody thought he would be at this stage. And the funny thing is, it’s not entirely his fault.

I know, right? It’s not every day you see a piece defending Paul Pogba. However, it is true; Pogba’s ‘flop’ career has not been a testament to his hard work, determination and leadership qualities on the pitch. He has plenty of skill too, but that goes without saying.

More from Manchester United

The truth is, whenever Pogba is playing for Manchester United, he is often the best player on the pitch. You’ll be the first to hear about his mistakes on social media but the reality is, United miss him when he’s not around.

So, it makes you wonder why he doesn’t start and make the headlines (for the right reasons) as often as he should. Right now he is facing an injury setback but in the past, it has been down to the manager. Yep, it didn’t take me long to bring up Jose Mourinho.

When Mourinho was managing at Manchester United, for most of Pogba’s reign, he completely misused the French midfielder. He played him in a limited position and didn’t allow him the freedom to move forward which he thrives on.

Many thought that this would be changed under Solskjaer and, in all honesty, I think it has. We just haven’t been given enough time to see that yet. He was exceptional towards the tail-end of last season and he was impressive before his injury this season.

This is why I’m not surprised to see the recent news from Daily Mail, who have reported that Pogba is open to extending his contract and remaining a Manchester United player.

If Pogba agrees that he can succeed at Manchester United under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, then who are we as soccer fans to deny him of that choice? He is the best judge of his own performance, as shown through the malleability in his career, so if he knows, we should trust his decision.

I for one am excited to see the future of Paul Pogba at Manchester United. He may be 26 but if he has his head in the right space, then coming back from his injury could be a breeze and the world will finally see why United paid the big bucks for him.
