Manchester United have yet to sign a replacement for Romelu Lukaku but they may have found just the right person…

Ah, the quest that feels like it’s been ongoing for a lifetime takes another turn. Manchester United should have signed a striker in the summer when they lost Romelu Luakaku to Italy. However, they failed to do so then and they also failed to sign one in the January window.

Marcus Rashford has had a good season and he has filled the void well, however, he is on the injury table and there are question marks surrounding whether or not he is the man for the future.

Surprisingly, United have looked better on an attacking front without him but this is probably just a coincidence. Either way, United need someone to either join or replace him in the starting XI.

More from Manchester United

The obvious names are bound to be floating around; Edinson Cavani, Joshua King, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. However, the Manchester United board appear to have a better idea.

According to 90min, the Old Trafford hierarchy are interested in pursuing a summer move for Harry Kane of Spurs. Although, it has been reported they will face competition from their wealthy rivals Manchester City.

If the Red Devils can qualify for the Champions League this season, then they will already have the advantage over their local rivals.

As we’re all aware, judging from the endless memes on social media, Manchester City were stripped of their chance to play in European competition for a few seasons following a breach of FFP rules. Unfortunately, I can’t tell you which rule they broke exactly because, let’s be honest, who even understands that jargon?

What I do know, though, is that Harry Kane is a top calibre player and he will be looking to play in the Champions League next season, whether with Spurs or somewhere else. Consequently, City will have a hard time convincing him when it comes to personal terms.

Harry Kane is currently nursing an injury comeback so he will have plenty of time to consider his options. There’s no denying that Jose Mourinho and company will give their all to persuade him to stay but at the end of the day, if he pushes for a move then it’s hard to keep him happy.

Spurs fans will feel confident though, because he is one of their own. That said, if Manchester United are serious about finally signing him then they will need to go above and beyond.

Next. Let's be honest, Paul Pogba can still succeed at United. dark

Do you think Harry Kane should stay at Tottenham or consider a move elsewhere?
