Arsenal aims to boost their attack this summer and they have their eyes set on a Portuguese star from a Premier League rival.

Arsenal has been impacted by the Coronavirus more than most teams in the Premier League, but that has not stopped their scouting department from working.

Mikel Arteta has done well to lift Arsenal out of the bottom half of the table, and his side is now three points shy of a place among the top six.

The key problem for Arsenal, however, is their extreme dependency on Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to score goals this season. The 30-year-old striker has 17 goals and one assist to his name this season, which equates to 45% of Arsenal’s offensive output.

In order for the North London outfit to return to their true competitive ways as a regular member of the top four, Arteta needs some reinforcements to walk through the doors this summer.

The good news for the Spaniard is that his scouting department has identified a player who would undoubtedly provide a major boost for Arsenal in the final third of the pitch.

More from Arsenal FC

According to a new report from the Daily Mail, Arsenal has turned their attention to Wolverhampton’s Portuguese star Diogo Jota. The 23-year-old forward has developed into a true playmaker and lethal finisher over the last four seasons with Porto and Wolverhampton.

This season, Jota has been on fire in the Premier League and Europa League. Nuno Espirito Santo has seen his team reach new heights because of the offensive efficiency produced by the Portuguese youngster.

Jota has scored 15 goals in 37 appearances across all competitions this season, with nine of his goals being scored in the Europa League. Jota is the most confident member of Wolverhampton’s attacking trio as he constantly calls for the ball and orchestrates the majority of his team’s attacks.

The Gunners desperately need a player who is creative with the ball at his feet and is able to create chances for himself and others around him. This season, Arsenal are ranked as the eighth best team in terms of completed passes, but the Gunners have only scored 40 goals.

In other words, Arsenal’s lack of creativity up top has led to far too many dropped points, especially against mediocre opposition. Arteta is adding multiple players to his summer wishlist, but signing Jota from Wolverhampton should be a top priority for the Gunners.
