Well, it would appear that Manchester United aren’t constantly haunted by the dreaded Alexis Sanchez tax…

Three things are inevitable in this lifetime; death, taxes, and Manchester United paying over the odds for a player deemed cheaper elsewhere. I mean, this is only a recent phenomenon but fans know exactly what I’m talking about.

Manchester United are one of, if not the wealthiest clubs in the world and this is a result of their massive fanbase, which leads to an increase in sale shirts, season ticket sales, etc. It makes a big difference, even if they weren’t lucky enough to get a free pass into wealth like a certain Manchester club. *sips tea*

This leads clubs around Europe to the false assumption that United are willing and ready to pay an extortionate amount for their players. In what I like to call the “Alexis Sanchez tax” (yes, a reference to the ridiculous wages they paid to Alexis, only to not be greeted by any fair return).

More from Manchester United

This is one of the reasons why I sympathise with Ed Woodward, in a weird way. I feel like I should go and wash my mouth out now. But as time goes on, this inequality in the transfer market will soon fade. Hopefully, anyway.

According to a report from the Daily Mail, Odion Ighalo is not about to make United suffer for their previous spending history. The report suggests that Ighalo is willing to take a pay cut of £6m to remain a Manchester United player after his loan ends this summer.

And why wouldn’t he want to? United fans have welcomed him well and it hasn’t taken him long to settle into the Manchester culture. His family are also known advocates of the club since they are often hyping him up on social media. It’s humbling to see.

Manchester United fans should take this as a positive. Look, we all know Ighalo isn’t the best striker in the world but he is certainly a good and reliable striker whenever he plays. The fact that he is willing to lose out on pay to remain a United player shows his intent and dedication to the club. This will surely be awarded.

Ighalo ages at 30 years old so he is just coming out of the prime stages of his career. However, as a striker that relies on being in the right place at the right time, this wisdom is only going to get better with ages.

Yes, he may lose a yard or two but if United can adapt their system to accommodate for this, then Ighalo will surely have another few seasons under his belt at the top level.

dark. Next. Let's be honest, Paul Pogba can still succeed at Manchester United

Do you think Odion Ighalo can have a bright end to his career at Manchester United or is it not worth pursuing?
