Santos sneaks up, Tigres climb and Chivas hold steady

4. Santos Laguna (+5)

The Guerreros have won four of five to surge into third place in the table, but they are not the same explosive force they were last season when they led Liga MX with 40 goals. Julio Furch and Brian Lozano still lead the attack but each has just 3 goals, the same as youngster Eduardo Aguirre who has earned the starting spot alongside Furch.

5. Tigres (+6)

This veteran-laden team is doing just enough to stay in the fight for a high playoff seed. Typical of “Tuca” Ferretti clubs, the Tigres are playing conservative soccer (some might say boring) and boast the second-best defence in Liga MX.

6. Chivas (-2)

This break came at a bad time for Guadalajara as the “Rebaño Sagrado” is on a 4-game unbeaten streak after a disastrous 1-3-2 start. J.J. Macías came off the injured list to spark the offence and the defence has tightened up nicely has coach Luis Fernando Tena has identified his starters.

7. FC Juárez (-2)

The Bravos were the early-season surprise but ran into a wall, giving up 7 second-half goals in back-to-back losses to León and Tigres. In both those matches, Juárez had 1-0 leads before their defence collapsed.

8. Pumas (-3)

UNAM twice sat atop the table through the first six weeks of the Liga MX season, but a 4-game winless streak has seen the Pumas tumble down the standings. Coach Miguel González has seen his club concede 3 goals in each of the past 3 contests. Not good.
