Arsenal should look to sign Barcelona’s maestro Philippe Coutinho in the summer…

With the huge breakage in live sporting events, including the Premier League which is set to be out of action until the end of next month at least, it’s hard to look forward to the future. However, this is exactly what Arsenal is doing and it’s refreshing to see.

According to a report from the Mirror, Arsenal is part of an emerging group of clubs interested in Philippe Coutinho, and why wouldn’t they be? Here are five reasons why I think the Gunners are on the right track in signing Coutinho…

1. First of all, he is Premier League proven

Okay, I must address this one first. There seems to be a prevailing myth that players coming from foreign countries must be “Premier League proven”, whatever that term means. Because apparently, the English top-flight is some magical place where only the best of the best can succeed.

Well, if you were to accept that narrative, then the signing of Coutinho makes sense. Not only is he Premier League proven, but he is Premier League mastered. He was by far and away Liverpool’s best player for the many years he spent at Anfield and there were a few times I can recall him dominating Arsenal.

Consequently, Arsenal fans will be salivating in their mouths at the thought of Coutinho playing at the Emirates Stadium, and who can blame them?

Onto the next.
