Real Madrid may be ready to move on from Luka Jovic after one season and have already identified a replacement…

The striker position is one that has flummoxed Real Madrid for a couple of seasons now. Cristiano Ronaldo used to be the guy to finish the team’s moves but goals have dried up since he left.

Karim Benzema was supposed to pick up the slack and was finally going to be the focal point in the attack. But the Frenchman has been inconsistent since Ronaldo left for Juventus and none of their other signings have panned out.

According to Diario AS, Real Madrid are said to be interested in Wolves’ Raul Jimenez to reinforce their attack for next season. The Mexican striker has impressed since joining the Premier League side nearly two seasons ago.

More from Real Madrid

Jimenez joined Wolves on loan from Atletico Madrid and the club made his move permanent this past season. He’s scored 22 goals and added 10 assists in all competitions demonstrating that aside from being a goal-scorer, he can create chances as well.

If he does join, that might spell the end of Luka Jovic at Real Madrid. Jovic was one of the club’s marquee signings coming from Eintracht Frankfurt. But things haven’t gone as hoped for the Serbian.

Jovic has only scored two goals this season and has made more headlines outside the football pitch than in it.

Madrid’s other striker, Mariano, has barely had a look in under Zinedine Zidane. He was brought back from Lyon in 2018 but has rarely featured. His claim to fame so far is scoring Madrid’s second goal against Barcelona in the last Clasico.

As for Benzema, he started the season quite strong; scoring five goals in five matches as well as being the league’s top scorer until Lionel Messi returns. But the goals dried up starting in the middle of December.

While he did score in their 2-1 loss against Betis, it was in a losing effort. Prior to that, he had only scored twice in 10 games.

Prying Jimenez away from Wolves is going to be a tough task. They are in no rush to sell him and could find themselves in the Champions League depending on how they fare in the Europa League and if the competition ever gets back underway.

In any respects, he would be a tremendous signing for Los Blancos and be a good complement to Benzema. Whether they’d be willing to splash the cash is a different question.
