Liverpool may have to bid farewell to their top summer target due to the Coronavirus…

The coronavirus outbreak has caused the Premier League to be out of action until the end of next month, which is understandable. However, it is frustrating for many football fans, those who support Liverpool particularly.

While the measure had to be taken, Liverpool fans are bound to feel frustrated. They were nearing their first Premier League trophy since it was rebranded towards the end of the last century. It remains to be seen what will be done with the remainder of the season but for now, the priority is with maintaining the safety of players and everybody involved in the game.

However, it hasn’t just affected the on-field action, but also the work behind the scenes. According to a report from ESPN, Markus Krosche (sporting director at RB Leipzig) believes the coronavirus outbreak could prevent Timo Werner from leaving this summer.

More from Liverpool FC

This is merely an opinion at this point in time and is not factual, so Liverpool fans shouldn’t be too concerned. However, it does prove one thing which I’m sure the Reds would have already known; Leipzig really don’t want to lose Werner.

And why would they? After all, the German attacker is one of the most exciting attackers in the world and ageing at just 24 years old, there is plenty of time for him to develop into a star player.

Working under his countryman Jurgen Klopp is a real exciting thought. Werner is nearing the prime stages of his career so this mixed with Klopp’s immense man-management could make for a really healthy working relationship.

Klopp has been known to develop many players into the stars they are today; for example, Andrew Robertson, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Mohamed Salah. Werner would only add to this emerging list.

If Liverpool does continue their pursuit of Werner, then it will beg further question marks around the future of Sadio Mane. There is talk on social media that he could be a topic of attention this summer, which is understandable given he is Liverpool’s best attacking player.

Do you think Liverpool should continue their pursuit of Timo Werner despite the claims from the RB Leipzig sporting director?
