Playing together for a total of nine seasons together and a total of 42 goals coming off the foot of Brazilian superstar Dani Alves, the Argentine’s partnership with the Brazilian was one of the most lethal duos in world football.

Since the arrival of Dani Alves from Sevilla in 2008, Messi’s partnership with Dani Alves was one of the most or perhaps the most lethal duo in the world. Building up plays for others or themselves score the goals, Messi and Dani Alves made defenders think twice as to what to do.

The first goal that these two were involved with was in October of 2008 when Barcelona went on the road against Swiss side FC Basel in a 5-0 win. Dani Alves’s assist to Messi opened up the goalscoring and led the way for their side’s win just four minutes into the game.

Pep Guardiola‘s style of play helped create and develop the way these two found each other in the field. They knew where they were at all times, and defenders had trouble marking these two. Individually Dani Alves would slowly turn into an offensive right-back. With his movements in the filed, Messi knew he had to play with him to create goalscoring opportunities.

Messi last received an assist from Dani Alves in that iconic Copa del Rey Final against Athletic Club Bilbao. Winning the game, 3-1 saw Messi score a scientifically proven impossible goal and the last goal of the Messi-Alves partnership. Messi himself not only received assists from Alves, but he also provided a total of three times of his 21 goals for the Blaugrana side.

Barcelona’s duo was praised by many in the football world many times, and both knew each other well in the field to apply pressure and depth to Barcelona’s style of play.
