Juventus believe they can reach an agreement with the long-time Real Madrid player.

When Zinedine Zidane returned to Real Madrid during the middle of last season, one of the first things he did was bring back some of the player’s benched under both Julen Lopetegui and Santiago Solari.

One of those players was Marcelo. The Brazilian had lost his place to Sergio Reguilón who earned the starting left-back position on merit before being loaned out to Sevilla.

But Marcelo seems to have lost his starting job yet again. Ferland Mendy was brought into the fold this season and has gradually gained the confidence of Zidane. Given his situation, it should come as no surprise that teams are inquiring about Marcelo.

More from Real Madrid

According to Marca, Juventus are set to make another push for the left-back and believe his current situation may make a move possible.

The Italian giants had previously shown interest back in 2018 when they signed Cristiano Ronaldo but an agreement was never reached. Juventus are offering a four-year contract which could likely be his last long-term deal in Europe.

Marcelo is 31 and he has not been the same player he used to be. Real Madrid are better defensively when Mendy starts but better offensively when Marcelo starts. It will be up to the club to decide which alternative they prefer.

Should Juventus and Madrid come to an agreement, Marcelo will have to compete for a spot with Alex Sandro, Mattia De Sciglio and Danilo. They could very well sell one of the three but the Brazilian is going to have to earn his spot. His relationship with Ronaldo could play to his advantage.

Marcelo has been a mainstay with Los Blancos since he arrived back in 2007 from Fluminense. He quickly became a favourite under Mauricio Pellegrini and solidified his status later under Jose Mourinho.

At one point, he was considered the best left-back in the world. If he does wind up leaving next season, it will be the end of an era for a player who has been at the club for as long as he has.
