Barcelona’s pursuit for Neymar has taken yet another turn, as they are prepared to let go of Antoine Griezmann

Not even a global phenomenon can take media attention from Barcelona’s pursuit of Neymar. They have been trying to re-sign their former Brazilian ever since they let him go, it seems, and with each transfer window that passes the Catalans only grow more hungry.

And who can blame them? Neymar is one of the best players in the world and he is tipped to be the heir to Lionel Messi‘s throne once he retires. Having had experience in La Liga, winning many honours with Barca, he is in the best position to sign for the Catalans.

According to a new report from Sky Sports, Barcelona has reached a new hunger to sign Neymar. This morning, the outlet reported that the Barca hierarchy are hopeful of including Antoine Griezmann in a part-exchange deal. Obviously, Barcelona may still need to include a cash sum if this were the case.

More from FC Barcelona

At first glance, I found this hard to believe. Why would Barcelona want to let go of a world-class player without giving him much of a chance? But then, upon closer inspection, it made sense to me.

Think about it; there are two situations that could arise from Barcelona’s summer. Option A is they could solely focus on signing Neymar and option B is they find a cheaper way to sign Neymar (even if that means letting go of Griezmann) so they can also afford a top-quality striker to replace Luis Suarez. Option B, to me at least, seems like the most productive outcome.

Paris Saint-Germain would be more inclined to let Neymar go if they know they’re getting Griezmann in. The Frenchman knows the capital well and he would act as the ideal replacement for Edinson Cavani should he leave, partnering the exceptional Mauro Icardi in the attack.
