It’s not the first time Arsenal and Chelsea have locked horns. However, this time, they will showdown off the pitch…
It remains to be seen what the repercussions of the Coronavirus pandemic have on the summer transfer window. At this point in time, it’s likely the dates will be altered to allow for the completion of the season but this could easily change. One thing’s for sure, though, Chelsea and Arsenal aren’t holding back.
According to a report from the Daily Mail, Chelsea has joined the race to sign one of Arsenal’s main targets. It’s thought that the two London sides will lock horns in order to secure the signature of Jerome Boateng, who is rumoured to be on his way out of Bayern Munich this summer.
Boateng is heading into the final year of his Bundesliga contract and it doesn’t look likely at this point in time that the club and player will reach an agreement. Consequently, the best-case scenario is for the Bavarian giants to put him for sale and generate some money for the loss of his services.

Arsenal need to sign a centre back this summer. While the likes of David Luiz and Shkodran Mustafi have looked impressive under the tutelage of Mikel Arteta, there’s no denying the Gunners have an ageing defence which needs fixing.
Both Luiz and Sokratis Papastathopoulos age above 30 years old and are in need of replacements. With William Saliba arriving in the new seasons, the Gunners would benefit from signing another player to partner him.
I know what you’re thinking. But Jerome Boateng is 31 years old and essentially past it, right? Wrong. Well, the first point is right, but the second isn’t. Boateng is still playing at the highest level and unlike Luiz and Sokratis, is showing no signs of ageing. He also has experience at the top level, as I can’t remember the last season he went without winning a major honour.
Chelsea, on the other hand, never got the chance to replace Luiz when he jumped ship to Arsenal. That said, a move for Arsenal’s main transfer target would be perfect as it also rubs salt into the wounds of their rivals.
Where do you think Jerome Boateng will be playing next season?
