Real Madrid may be getting closer in their efforts to land Manchester United star.

Real Madrid has been interested in Paul Pogba for some time. Manager Zinedine Zidane has been very public in his praise for the French midfielder and how he’d like to have him at the club.

His dream may be closer to becoming a reality as the Manchester United midfielder is being linked more and more to a move to the Spanish giants.

According to Diario AS, those in Pogba’s inner circle have made it known that the player will prioritize Real Madrid over any other side. That includes his former club, Juventus.

More from Real Madrid

Despite this seemingly added boost, Manchester United are unlikely to make the negotiations easy. They know that they are as equally likely to lose Pogba as they are to keep him. If the latter winds up becoming reality, then they are going to try to get as much as they can.

They brought Pogba back from Juventus for around £90 million and are going to want at least that from any team coming for him. What they don’t want, however, is for him to run his contract down and potentially leave on a free.

Unlike in the past where it seemed that Real Madrid were only after Pogba because he was a big name or because he was French like Zidane, tactically, his signing would make sense.

Their midfield is getting up there in age with Luka Modric in the twilight of his career and Toni Kroos playing less under Zidane. A midfield trio of Fede Valverde, Casemiro and Pogba would provide a balanced mixed of youth and experience.

Another thing potentially playing in Los Blancos’ favor is that Pogba has spent the majority of the season out injured. This has undoubtedly decreased his value. At the same time, his agent is an obstacle.

Aside from being very loud and explicit when he wants to be, Mino Raiola is going to command a significant amount in agent feed. Whatever amount Real Madrid may save could wind up going back to Raiola anyway.

What does appear certain is that Pogba’s time at Manchester United will be over sooner rather than later. His homecoming proved unsuccessful and with a United team in rebuild, perhaps the smart move is to cut bait and spend the money on other areas of the team that need improving.
