Barcelona finally make the correct decision regarding Willian

Willian is one of the names in discussion as we approach this uncertain summer transfer window. His contract is set to expire at Chelsea and the club has no desire to keep him on board, despite his rumoured plea from Willian. This inevitably put Barcelona on red alert.

Barcelona is looking to add some serious reinforcements to their attack, as they are looking to re-sign Neymar from Paris Saint-Germain and maybe a long-term replacement for Luis Suarez. That said, signing Willian for free would have been a nice little bonus, right?

Wrong. the Brazil international, as harsh as it sounds, would bring absolutely nothing to the table for Barcelona. He wouldn’t improve the XI in any way, shape or form and he would simply be a drain to the wage resources.

This is partly why Chelsea are wanting to get rid of him, he is ageing and he is far too inconsistent to be a member of Frank Lampard‘s team going forward. Barcelona must have higher aspirations; if he’s not good enough for Chelsea, he’s certainly not good enough for the Blaugrana.

According to Sport, Barcelona has finally seen sense and agree with this. It’s thought the Camp Nou hierarchy are not willing to justify the wages on Willian and will instead turn their attention to other options.

This is good to see. Barca is not the type of club that needs to be feeding on other club’s scraps. They are arguably the biggest club in the world for a reason and although the transfer market will inevitably be confusing this summer, there are ways around dealing with this which doesn’t involve signing useless Willian.
