Development of youngsters has been one of Real Madrid’s foremost agendas in recent years, but they have let slip of a very bright one some months ago.

Ferland Mendy has been a revolutionary signing for Real Madrid and Zinedine Zidane is certainly benefitting from his compatriot’s services. The former Olympique Lyon defender is clearly not the best full-back going forward but is an absolute rock at the back, thereby offering a very attacking side with much-needed defensive stealth.

Zinedine Zidane’s faith in Ferland Mendy has paid off as the Frenchman has become a starting figure ahead of Marcelo now.

The Brazil international fails in tracking back and fulfilling his primary duties, so he has now been linked with an exit from Spain’s capital to head to Juventus where he may spend his final years beside Cristiano Ronaldo.

More from Real Madrid

Marcelo’s potential departure means that Sergio Reguilon will most probably return to the Bernabeu and act as a back-up for Mendy. However, the Merengues may have had a much better player in Theo Hernandez had they shown patience in the youngster. Florentino Perez is unhappy with Zinedine Zidane for his wrong decision-making over a player of such great quality, Don Balon has claimed.

Theo Hernandez had a productive loan spell at Real Sociedad, but despite that Zidane excluded the former Deportivo Alaves left-back from his long-term plans and let him leave for AC Milan. The Rossoneri are benefitting tremendously from the Spaniard’s services and all signs point towards Theo becoming one of the world’s best in his position.

His value at AC Milan has increased significantly and he has been established on the radars of Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain among others as he seeks to play Champions League football regularly. Had Zidane been a bit more patient with Theo and not made a hasty decision, Real Madrid may have held onto what could be a generational talent.

Do you trust Zidane’s instinct or do you think Perez has enough reason to be unhappy?
