Sadio Mane has been Liverpool’s best player this season and he arguably was deserving of the Ballon d’Or award last year…
Liverpool seems to be the hub of attacking talent. No, I mean it, they have the best attack I’ve seen since MSN for Barcelona. Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah make up the fearsome threesome in the final third for Liverpool and at times, they are simply unplayable.
Firmino’s creativity is central, while Salah is known for his runs in behind the opposing defence. However, someone who doesn’t get enough credit is Sadio Mane. The Senegal international has not had a bad game for as long as I can remember and he has been by far and away Liverpool’s best player this season.
Mane has scored an impressive 14 goals and provided seven assists this season, showing he provides more to Liverpool than just his goal-scoring. He has incredible footballing intelligence, as he always knows when and how to play the right pass into either Firmino or Salah.

There are talks of him being on the move this summer as the transfer market is bound to be like something we’ve never seen before. The Senegal international has been urged by many professionals to leave Anfield for various reasons.
According to Goal, Mane’s countryman and former striker Diomansy Kamara has been the latest to voice his opinion. Kamara believes that if Mane wishes to win the Ballon d’Or award, then he needs to move away from Liverpool.
In many ways, I can see where Kamara is coming from. The Ballon d’Or has never been the fairest competition and it certainly has its biases. In the last few seasons, understandably, the award has never left Spain. While England is known for the best footballing country in the world, there’s no denying that the world’s best talent plays in La Liga.
If Sadio Mane does take the plunge to La Liga, then maybe the voting system would take him more seriously. He would be showing that he can compete against the likes of Lionel Messi and Luka Modric, both of which have picked up the last two Ballon d’Or awards.
Do you think Sadio Mane needs to leave Liverpool to win the Ballon d’Or award?
