Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos will call an end on his illustrious career with one of the world’s greatest clubs in a few years.

Real Madrid doesn’t have much work going into this summer’s transfer window, but they remain hellbent on pursuing a move for a striker who can solve their goal-scoring issues in the longer run. Harry Kane and Kylian Mbappe are the two primary targets for the Merengues and one of them could be the only signing for the year.

In 2021 or even some time this summer, however, Los Blancos may need to fish for Sergio Ramos’ replacement. Their crop of youngsters is well sorted but doesn’t have a very good central defender who can succeed the veteran.

The Whites’ captain is now 34 years old and in spite of not slowing down just yet, he still has to be replaced by someone equally good.

More from Real Madrid

Sergio Ramos has been the world’s best defender without a doubt over the last decade or so. The centre-back is the complete package that one looks for.

Ramos doesn’t lack anywhere in what a defender requires, such as aerial abilities, tackling, positioning or even playing the ball out from the back. But besides all these and goal-scoring of course, the Spain international’s biggest trait is his leadership without which the club does struggle.

Don Balon has claimed that Ramos himself has recommended that Real Madrid go for Villarreal’s Pau Torres as his successor. Pau Torres is only 23 but has emerged as a regular for the Castellon-based club. Similar to Sergio Ramos, the Spaniard displays an extraordinary amount of leadership and maturity on the pitch, something rare for a player of his age.

Los Merengues seem to be seriously interested in the young centre-back’s proposition that will cost them an estimated 30 million euros, a rather cheap fee in today’s inflated market. Having said that, they will have to act fast and provide a differentiated environment to the youngster because Arsenal, Barcelona and Manchester United are also monitoring him.

Do you think Pau Torres will be an ideal replacement to the colossal Real Madrid figure?
