For once, Lionel Messi appears to have benefitted Real Madrid. The Barcelona forward has called off one of his club’s transfer targets, paving the way for Los Blancos to sign him…
Real Madrid fans know Lionel Messi well. All too well for their liking, given the number of times the Argentine has torn their club apart since he rose through the youth ranks in Catalonia. However, now it would appear that Los Blancos can have the last laugh at the Barcelona forward.
The summer transfer window is one of the many things in the world right now that remains uncertain. Your guess is good as mine on what will happen to it given the Coronavirus repercussions. However, for Lionel Messi and the Barcelona hierarchy, it’s business as usual.
According to a new report from Diario Gol, the Argentine international has been in contact with the Barcelona board over a signing which he initially requested; Lautaro Martinez of Inter Milan. It’s reported now that he has advised Barca to sign a cheaper option since Luis Suarez seems on the road to recovery. This could pave the way for Real Madrid to sign Martinez.

Think about it, Real Madrid needed to sign a forward just as much as Barcelona did this summer. With Karim Benzema ageing, Florentino Perez and company needed to think long-term and Luka Jovic certainly isn’t that. Jovic arrived at the start of this season and he has not made a single impact, to be frank.
Of course, Jovic is the future of Real Madrid so he will be given time but, the truth is, Benzema is beginning to grow into the past of Madrid. He is showing signs of ageing and Jovic needs some fresh legs to partner him in the long-run, Benzema isn’t that.
But Martinez does provide that option to Real Madrid, should Erling Haaland remain a Borussia Dortmund player of course. Martinez has a hefty price tag but at least the footballing capital knows they won’t face competition from Barcelona.
Whether or not Florentino Perez notices Lautaro Martinez of Inter Milan remains to be seen. However, we know this transfer market is bound to be more complicated than we’ve seen before so it’s important to leach onto any scraps you may find as a manager or footballing president. That said, Real Madrid could seriously capitalise on Lionel Messi’s advice.
Do you think Real Madrid should consider signing Lautaro Martinez?
