In times like this, the last thing Barcelona fans want at the back of their mind is whether Lionel Messi will stay. Luckily, Quique Setien has brushed those concerns away…

If you ever had the audacity to think that Lionel Messi would leave Barcelona this summer, you can think again. Of course, prior to the Coronavirus outbreak, it was easy to be concerned about Lionel Messi’s future but this should no longer be the case, or so Quique Setien believes.

Of course, there has been a real power struggle at Camp Nou lately with members of the hierarchy disappearing left, right and centre. That said, it would lead many to think this would hinder Lionel Messi’s decision to stay, as we all know he is very protective over the club and he is the first to step in when things go wrong with the higher-ups.

According to Goal, Quique Setien is confident that Lionel Messi’s mind has not been swayed in any way by the recent power struggle.

"“I don’t think what happened has made a player like Messi rethink whether or not to (stay at) the club. I am sure he will finish his career at Camp Nou.” – Quique Setien (quote via Dom Farrell of Goal.com)"

More from FC Barcelona

If the head coach of Barcelona believes it, then so should the fanbase and the media. There may be a struggle in power but, in all honesty, that is the last thing Messi is probably concerned about right now. The world has many bigger issues and Messi has proven loyal to Barcelona through the good and bad times, the end of his career will be no different.

The truth is, Barcelona may feel like they will forever be in Messi’s debt but the feeling is almost definitely mutual. Messi will feel like he owes a lot to not only the club, but the supporters, who have stood by him and turned him into the player he’s become. Which is, in my opinion, the greatest football player of all time.
