Real Madrid is beginning to implement a clear plan for the summer transfer window, with Florentino Perez at the heart of those plans…

While the last few weeks have been different, to say the least, they have been kind to Real Madrid fans. Not only because their own transfer business seems to be brewing, but watching the power crisis that is unfolding at their arch-rivals Barcelona must be a guilty pleasure to watch.

Of course, Real Madrid’s backroom staff is still fruitful and well. While Florentino Perez, the footballing president of the capital, is anticipating a strange transfer window, he is doing all he can to add some clarity to the procedure.

According to a new report from Don Balon, the president has deciphered the perfect plan to fix his backline. The Spanish publication claims that Real Madrid will target the Bayern Munich full-back David Alaba.

More from Real Madrid

This season, the Austria international has mainly occupied the centre-back position but he can also play as a left-back, which makes him the perfect suitor to Real Madrid. The versatility will serve Zinedine Zidane well as he tried to implement Alaba into the side.

Alaba’s contract runs out at the Allianz Arena in 2021, but there doesn’t seem to be any motivation from either party to put pen to paper. That said, he is bound to be available at a cut-price which would appeal to Perez more in a time of economic uncertainty.

Alaba is a world-class defender, in my opinion, and he’s played at the top level for many years now. That said, he is worthy of the jump to the footballing capital of the world.

Alaba is a fine tackler of the ball as he uses his frame well, and he isn’t afraid to dive into 50/50 challenges. This could be crucial to Real Madrid, but his attacking presence is what steals the show for me.

When Alaba is playing out wide, it enables him to dribble with the ball at his feet and show off his creative prowess in the final third, often unleashing many impressive balls to his attackers. He also puts in many tackles in the opposing team’s half, which is pivotal to beginning counter-attacks.

It’s important to mention, this is merely speculation at this point. Only Perez knows what his true intentions are. However, with Marcelo linked with a move away from the club, it makes perfect sense to bring Alaba to the club this summer.
