It’s not the first time that Barcelona and Real Madrid have locked horns over a potential signing. However, this one is worthwhile…

I have been the first person to criticise Barcelona and Real Madrid for some of their transfer targets in the buildup to this window. Of course, Willian was nowhere near Barcelona’s standards and I also thought Los Blancos could do much better than Harry Kane.

Although, it’s important to applaud clubs when they get things right. And that’s exactly what the two Spanish superclubs have done, although much to their own annoyance, they have located the same player at the same time.

According to a new report from Don Balon, both Josep Bartomeu and Florentino Perez have located the midfield signing of Marcelo Brozovic, currently playing for Inter Milan.

More from La Liga

It’s easy to see why Brozovic has been located to fix the respective midfield problems for each La Liga side. Brozovic has emerged into one of Serie A’ best midfielders and ageing at 27, he is finally showing signs that he can be a world-beater at his peak.

In my opinion, Brozovic is an incredibly underrated midfielder since there aren’t many of his kind in the Europe today. He is a physically-demanding midfielder that is not afraid to put his body on the line when trying to obtain possession.

This will remind Real Madrid of a player they already possess; Casemiro. It’s one of the main reasons why Zinedine Zidane is giving his utmost to sign a midfielder this summer because the Brazilian is deprived of competition in the starting XI. If Casemiro becomes injured, there aren’t many of his style that can replace him. Brozovic would do exactly that, though.

As for Barcelona, Quique Setien wishes to sign a midfielder to replace the ageing Sergio Busquets who, while there is still fuel left in the tank, can not escape the nearing of his retirement.
