Giving up is rarely an option in the transfer market, especially for a club like Barcelona. However, they may have no other choice this summer.

By now, it’s chip-paper news that Barcelona is interested in Lautaro Martinez. The Inter Milan forward first entered Barcelona’s radar a few weeks ago and since then, it seems the club officials have been in contact and a conclusion has been reached.

According to the Daily Mail, Barcelona’s chances of signing Lautaro this summer have been diminished due to the Coronavirus outbreak. Let’s not forget, Italy was one of the earliest-affected countries so the financial strain on clubs isn’t going to be light.

Barca will inevitably still try until they’re given the complete red light. However, it’s looking likely they’ll have to make a sacrifice on this one.

And it shouldn’t come as a surprise either, Josep Maria Bartomeu himself said that he expects the transfer market to be a very strange one this summer. Clubs will have to sacrifice their main transfer targets.

The good news for Barcelona fans is there’s no bad word on Neymar yet. As far as we as football fans are aware, the deal will still be pursued. After all, Neymar was always the priority for Barcelona anyway so bringing him back to Camp Nou is what fans are anticipating the most.

Does Barcelona have other options instead of Martinez? Yes, of course, they do. Let’s not forget, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is likely to still be available this summer and he will be much cheaper than the Argentine, anyway.

Barcelona’s strategy to overcome this in the coming weeks will be interesting. It’s no secret that they have struggled in terms of their hierarchy in recent weeks, so it’ll be interesting to see how they club together to overcome this setback.
