Finally, after a long wait, Arsenal fans could have the midfield solution they’ve been waiting for. However, it will be tough to sign him.

There’s no denying that Arsenal will be on the lookout for a midfield signing this summer. Mikel Arteta knows this position well as he dominated the midfield for many years during his playing days and it was top of his priority when he arrived and managed his first few games.

Currently, Arsenal adopt a midfield pairing of Lucas Torreira and Granit Xhaka, with Matteo Guendouzi available from the bench if need be. However, this is likely to change as Arteta will probably want to solidify this make-do switch.

The perfect man for the job is, of course, Thomas Partey. According to a new report from Express, the Gunners have made a £43m bid for the 26-year-old. There was also talk earlier in the month that Alexandre Lacazette could be used as part of a swap-deal.

There are many reasons why the Gunners should sign Partey. After all, he is a top-quality midfielder and an improvement on what’s available to them currently.

However, the main reason is the freedom he would give to other midfielders. He is a different player to both Xhaka and Torreira, therefore, there would no role allocation conflict.

Partey’s main trait is his progressing passing and most notably, his forward passes in the final third. This is exactly what Arsenal need more of, since they can often be stagnant in their midfield play.

This would mean that Mesut Ozil no longer has a place in the squad but, in all honesty, that’s exactly what the Gunners need. Selling him and relieving his massive wage burden would do the club a world of good in this economic uncertainty.

So, paying the fee for Partey doesn’t seem too bad. He would provide a tactical benefit but also an economic benefit in cashing in for Ozil. Arsenal, pay the fee.
