Arsenal may have to resort to a former transfer target this summer and his name will almost certainly ring a bell to the fanbase…

Sometimes it’s best to stick with what you already know. This is as much the case in football as it is in real life. Arsenal has been linked with MANY names in the past, which of them were true and which were simply media lies I do not know, but there have certainly been a lot.

One of them is Wissam Ben Yedder, who currently plays for Monaco. According to L’Equipe, Arsenal is interested in signing him this summer, although they will face competition from league rivals Manchester United.

Honestly, it’s no surprise to see Ben Yedder’s name pop up again. It’s no secret that the Gunners will probably pursue a striker or two this summer, with both Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette linked with moves away from the club.

More from Arsenal FC

In case you weren’t aware, Ben Yedder has been in exceptional form in Ligue 1 this season, becoming Monaco’s main choice to lead the front line. He has scored 18 league goals and provided four assists, showing he is a well-rounded striker.

Before the Coronavirus break, Ben Yedder was in some of his best form of the season so it remains to be seen whether Monaco is willing to sell him in the summer. It wouldn’t surprise me if they wanted to keep ahold of him.

Ben Yedder would be a good option for Arsenal, undeniably. However, they must consider one thing; his age. He is 29, so he is just now coming out of the peak stage of his career, on paper, and will soon begin to decline.

There is certainly fuel left in the tank but he is not the young gem he was when the Gunners first showed interest. Perhaps this is a good thing though, as they could treat him as a short-term option since his new-found experience would serve the North London side well.
