Arsenal fans won’t want to lose Aubameyang, however, they know the price they must pay if worst comes to worst.

Arsenal has not seen a striker as talented as Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang since, dare I mention his name, Robin van Persie? Sigh, I feel like I should go and wash my mouth out with soap after saying his name.

But it’s true. Arsenal has not exactly been blessed with striker options since he left the club, so it was refreshing to see Aubameyang arrive. Since then, the Gabon international has scored an abundance of goals for the Gunners and he even claimed captaincy from Granit Xhaka this season.

However, they run the risk of losing him now. His contract runs out in 2021, and with the transfer market the way it is, the Gunners may wish to sell him and sign a replacement before it’s too late. The last thing they would want is to lose another one of their star players for free.

More from Arsenal FC

According to a new report from the Express, Arsenal knows the price they must pay for his replacement. The report claims that Celtic have valued Odsonne Edouard at £25m.

Aubameyang’s value is thought to be around the £30-40m mark so if the Gunners were to pursue Edouard, they would certainly have the funds to do so.

The Celtic striker is just 22 years old but he is a regular for the Scottish team. He has scored 27 goals across all competitions this season, which is more than impressive. This goal contribution is surely what has attracted Arsenal to him since this is something they would miss should they lose Aubameyang.

However, as I’ve said time and time again, Arsenal’s priority should be to keep ahold of Aubemayang. The options are not limited to either selling him now or selling him next summer. Where is the board’s desire to keep him? After all, he’s never explicitly stated he wants to leave and indeed, he seems very happy to be a Gunner. It all just doesn’t make sense to me.

Next. Arsenal finally make their mind up on Aubameyang. dark

Do you think the Gunners should sign Odsonne Edouard?
