Sometimes, it’s best to stick with the players you know, and Arsenal will certainly have plenty of scout reports on this player…

I’ve made no secret of my distaste for Mesut Ozil in the past. Once a world-beater for Arsenal, he now doesn’t even warrant a place in the starting XI. Despite this, the former Germany international remains a huge financial burden on the club since he is their highest earner. That said, the Gunners should sell him to raise some funds for this summer’s transfer window.

But who is there to replace him? Well, there are many players. There was once a time where Ozil was irreplaceable before he was offered the bumper contract, but nowadays he is certainly easy to replace.

One of those options is a player that Arsenal knows very, very well. I am of course talking about Nabil Fekir, the former Lyon player who the Gunners lost out on to Real Betis. He was thought to be the original Ozil successor and, few years down the line, he has only strengthened his cause.

More from Arsenal FC

Fekir is a creative player that strives in terms of his passing ability and his impressive breaking of the lines. He is a predominantly attacking midfielder, who plays both central and on either wing. He has also even played as a centre forward this season, so that’s an option for Mikel Arteta to explore should they lose Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Replacing Mesut Ozil with Nabil Fekir simply makes so much sense and it has to happen, there’s no denying this. Not only would it improve Arsenal’s wage situation, but it would also give them a much better option in the midfield and one that will be willing to put in extra hours on the training field.

However, if the Gunners were to do so, they wouldn’t have an easy time of it. According to Marca, a Spanish news outlet, they will face competition from AC Milan who is also eager to sign Fekir.
