Finally, a club legend has come out to say what all Arsenal fans are thinking in regard to the Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang situation…

No fan wants to see their best player leave. It’s a different kind of heartbreak and one that Arsenal fans wouldn’t wish on anyone, except Tottenham fans, of course.

In all seriousness, the Gunners do run the risk of losing their star player this summer transfer window. I am, of course, talking about Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who in recent weeks has been subject to a move to Chelsea, Manchester United or Barcelona.

Whether this move goes ahead remains to be seen but a former Arsenal legend has spoken against it. According to a report from Goal, Tony Adams has warned that the Gunners must sign some top quality players this summer, or Aubameyang could “walk out the door”.

More from Arsenal FC

Nobody can fault Tony Adams admiration for the club. All fans know that he is simply one of us, who represented us on the big stage for three whole decades. In terms of longevity, no Arsenal legend comes close to the brute defender.

However, what he is saying here may be a little hard to achieve. We need to be realistic in our goals and not pushing the board to go all out for transfers because that is highly unrealistic.

Yes, the money is there. It almost definitely is. However, is there enough to be plunging it all into an uncertain market? Definitely not. Most high-end football businessmen will tell you the same thing; this transfer market will mainly involve swap-deals.

I suppose, in many ways, this works in Arsenal’s favour. They have a few top-quality players that spring to mind who simply don’t fit the system or are surplus to requirements, Mesut Ozil being the main culprit. Should the North London side involve him in any deal, they could land a top-quality player in return I’m sure.
