The Premier League season is still up in the air, but now Arsenal fans may feel like they want it to be played out after this news…

One word can scare Arsenal fans away in an instant, so I will refrain myself from saying it. Defence. Whoops, it slipped out.

Jokes aside, the defensive side to Arsenal’s game is what’s let them down in recent seasons. Losing Laurent Koscielny and Per Mertesacker hasn’t exactly helped but, in all fairness, even with hose two protecting the keeper, it wasn’t the greatest showing.

As a great man once said; attack wins you games but defence wins you titles. This couldn’t be truer for Arsenal as they’ve had some terrific attackers within the last decade but their defence is what’s let them down.

And it was the case this Premier League season too, which is likely the reason why they find themselves in 9th place heading into the Coronavirus break. David Luiz and Shkodran Mustafi have improved in recent weeks, but they have a mountain to climb should the English top-flight continue after the break.

This is why it’s good for us fans to see the return of William Saliba. After the Ligue 1 season was declared void, it was revealed that Saliba would return to North London sooner than expected. Now, according to the Mirror, he will be available to play for Arsenal for the rest of the 2019-20 campaign, whatever the fate of that may be.

I personally am very excited to see the rise of William Saliba in an Arsenal shirt. He is a young defender who already looks very mature in the backline, so I’m certain he will only continue to flourish under the tutelage of Mikel Arteta. Working alongside experienced defenders will only give him the boost he needs.

So, certainly, it is a lifeline should the Premier League season continue. Saliba would be a great addition to have in the defence, although it may take him a game or two to settle. Who knows? He could be the solution to tighten up the defence and it will give Arteta the time to see if he needs any more centre backs.

Arsenal will finally sell deadwood midfielder this summer. dark. Next
