It’s unfair to compare each Arsenal target to their former players. However, this midfield target gives me great nostalgia…

The summer transfer window will soon come around which means one thing and one thing only; disappointed Arsenal fans. It’s always the case, right? Stan Kroenke simply doesn’t invest the money and more often than not, we lose our star players.

However, amid all the rough, there are usually some gems that emerge. In the last summer, it was Gabriel Martinelli and in the window before that, it was Matteo Guendouzi. According to reports, the Gunners may go for a more well-known youngster this summer.

Diario AS has claimed that Arsenal is interested in signing Cesar Gelabert this summer. The Real Madrid 19-year-old is considered to be among the future plans at the Santiago Bernabeu, however, with Mikel Arteta at the helm, the Gunners have every right to feel confident.

Certainly, Gelabert is a great backup option to have if the pursuit of either Thomas Partey or Orkun Kokcu is not successful. The Spanish youngster is still developing, but he is showing plenty of signs of flair and his dribbling ability is already exceptional.

He has the raw talent that Arsenal have seen many times in their Spanish midfielders. These include, of course, Cesc Fabregas and Santi Cazorla. When I watch him play, his style reminds me of these two former Arsenal midfielders.

Am I saying Gelabert will definitely reach the levels they reached? No, I cannot say this yet. That’s an unfair claim to make and I wouldn’t dream of piling such pressure on the youngster.

However, he certainly has good role models to look up to as he seeks to keep the Spanish lineage strong and well. North London is the perfect place for this since many have come and succeeded.
