Arsenal fans should be excited by this prospect…

Mikel Arteta has made no secret his desire to fix all that is wrong with Arsenal. He is an honest manager, and certainly not a board pleaser. If something is wrong, then Arteta will address it. This is the kind of help that fans wanted when it came to replacing Unai Emery’s wrongdoings, after all.

That said, the midfield is bound to be an area of concern for Arteta. Indeed, this was one of the first places he found a temporary solution in his first game in charge. It has been a midfield pairing of Granit Xhaka and Lucas Torreira that’s done the job so far, but some changes need to be made for longevity.

According to a new report from Bild, Arsenal may have found that option. It’s reported they are interested in signing Angelo Stiller, a 19-year-old defensive midfielder from Bayern Munich, who can also play as a central midfielder if need be.

The Gunners now have plenty of midfield options. The obvious name seems to be Thomas Partey, though, so fans will hope this interest doesn’t say anything about that transfer being called off. The French midfielder is thought to favour a move to North London, so I’m sure Stiller would only be a backup option.

Given the fact that Stiller is yet to make a senior appearance, though, he will be a nice cheap option for the Gunners to have. He is versatile too, and he has a cannon of a shot on him. Therefore, he would provide plenty of options to Mikel Arteta as he looks to craft his perfect midfield.

It’ll certainly be interesting to see how this transfer shapes up. In terms of the other midfield options, I would assume Stiller sits bottom in terms of priority. However, maybe the recruitment team see something in him that I don’t.
