There’s no denying that Dayot Upamecano has generated worldwide interest, but Arsenal fans can finally start to get excited about him…

Dayot Upameno is a huge name in the world of football right now and I’m not just talking about its length. Arsenal fans will know a lot about him since they were linked with the centre back in the January transfer window. However, as well know, that transfer window was VERY lacklustre.

This summer’s window might be exactly the same, however, only time will tell. One thing’s for sure, though, the Gunners are doing all they can to make it business as usual, despite the loss of matchday income and television income.

According to a new report from Football London, there is a reason for fans to get excited. It’s reported that the North London side are now favourites to sign Dayot Upamecano, having overtaken Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United. If there were any two sides Arsenal wished to beat, it would be those two.

More from Arsenal FC

Upamecano is an incredibly talented defender and it’s hard to believe he is only 21 years old since he often plays like the most mature player on the pitch. He is a brute defender who is also very good with the ball at his feet, making him perfect for Mikel Arteta‘s system.

It’s likely that some players will have to be sold this summer, because of course, Arsenal is still expected to pay for Nicolas Pepe‘s fee in instalments. However, they should not let this discourage them from pursuing the France U21 international.

William Saliba will arrive back from his loan early, so the two of them combined is a frightening thought for the future. It would also benefit the French national massively to have two of their most promising youngsters playing together frequently.

With the German Bundesliga expected to return back to action soon, Upamecano’s mind will be focused on finishing the league with his club. However, the Gunners should continue their negotiations to prevent his valuation from rising too much.
