Well, this isn’t what the Arsenal fans want to see from their biggest legend…

Thierry Henry is arguably the greatest player to play for Arsenal. He certainly is the greatest player to play for them during the Premier League era, that cannot be disputed by anyone. However, over the last few years, a particular set of fans have started to lose interest in him as an ambassador for the club.

It all started when he chose to pursue a career in punditry rather than taking the first step into management at Arsenal. Indeed, this was at a time of desperate need too as the search for an Arsene Wenger successor was in full swing.

Now the Invincible has spoken out on a modern issue at Arsenal, and it’s that which involves Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. The Gabon talisman is linked with a move away from the Emirates Stadium, with many fans not wanting him to leave for obvious reasons.

The striker has saved the club’s skin on many occasions since he arrived from Borussia Dortmund. This season, it’s no surprise to see him leading Arsenal’s goal-scoring tally yet again, having scored some important goals against the likes of Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur.

However, according to a new report from Goal, Henry has done little to convince him to stay in North London this summer. It’s reported that the Frenchman feels like he cannot provide a reasonable explanation as to whether he should stay, given his own experience in leaving Arsenal for Barcelona.

"“As an Arsenal fan you want [Aubameyang] to stay, but as a football player he will assess the situation with his family, with his dad, and see what is the best for them.” – Thierry Henry (quote via Chris Burton of Goal)"

It’s interesting that Henry mentioned Aubameyang’s father there. As we all know, family is a value that Aubemeyang holds close to his heart. He is a human, at the end of the day. His family obviously want what is best for his career.

Arsenal fans can take great comfort in knowing this, though. It was just last week that Aubameyang’s father reposted a photo to his Instagram story of his son first signing for the club. What this says about his stance remains to be seen but one thing’s for sure, the club has treated Aubameyang well so there’s little reason, that we know of, for his family to hate the club in any way.

As a fan, though, these comments from Thierry Henry are a little underwhelming. Of course, as a pundit, he has to take a neutral stance, but it would have been nice to see him provide a little more backing to the club he professes to love, that’s all.
