We unfortunately still don’t have very much info about when (or if) Juventus will get to continue this season, but that doesn’t mean we can’t look ahead at what they should be doing once the season officially comes to an end.

Juventus may have been leading Serie A when the season came to a halt, but they had both Inter and Lazio breathing down their neck and they were trailing Lyon in the Champions League. These things showed that while Juve is still a strong club, there are still issues they need to fix this summer to win now and to ensure continued success in the future.

Sandro Tonali

I’ve already highlighted Juve’s need to sign Sandro Tonali, but I think it has become an even more pressing need for this summer. Everything I’ve said before about Tonali remains true. He still has the ability to anchor this midfield as a deep-lying playmaker.

He’s strong defensively, is an incredible passer, and has flashed some deadly ability from set-pieces. The one thing that has changed in the last couple of months is Juve’s midfield situation

The change in the Juventus midfield is that more and more fans (including myself) are becoming ready for Juve to move on from Miralem Pjanic. He simply hasn’t lived up to expectations over the last couple of seasons, which is especially troubling this season as he was supposed to improve under Maurizio Sarri.

Pjanic will turn 30 before we see Juventus play another match, which means it was getting to be time to start looking for his eventual replacement anyway, but his play has made it clear that Juve needs improvement rather than an heir. I believe that Sandro Tonali is that improvement.

He has already flashed a ton of talent at just 19 years old and only stands to get better over the next few years. He certainly isn’t going to be cheap, but Juve needs to bring in the closest thing they’ve had to Andrea Pirlo since he left to play in the MLS.
