Sergej Milinkovic-Savic

I’ve suggested Sergej Milinkovic-Savic as one of the midfielders Juve needed to pursue in the past, but now I’m more sure than ever. Usually, it has been a choice between him and Isco, but Isco was becoming an important member of the Real Madrid squad before leagues came to a halt, so he might be off-limits this summer.

Instead, Juve should target Milinkovic-Savic, who has once again looked like a star this season for a Lazio squad that looked like a real threat to Juve’s Scudetto hopes.

There are quite a few good reasons for Juve to bring in Milinkovic-Savic this summer. First, they’ve needed a player in the mould of SMS since Paul Pogba left for Manchester United.

When Aaron Ramsey has been healthy and playing in the midfield, he has looked like “an” answer, but he hasn’t given us much reason to believe he’s “the” answer for a team aiming to win the Champions League.

Milinkovic-Savic has shown all season that he very well maybe that answer. His abilities in the midfield have been a big reason why Lazio became a real contender for the Scudetto this season and played a big part in making them the league’s 2nd highest scoring squad.

His talents should be particularly easy to sell to Juve’s management. He reminded them twice this season that he was exactly what they were missing as he demolished their midfield en route to a pair of 3-1 wins.

Milinkovic-Savic would bring Juve’s midfield the attacking ingenuity, flair, and dependability they’ve been missing in recent seasons. He’d be the second piece of the midfield rebuild and would immediately improve this squad’ attack, making them look much more like we’d expect a Maurizio Sarri led squad to look.
