No Arsenal fan wants to lose Aubameyang, but the blow may be softened if reports from Italy are to be believed…

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is a name that sits well within the hearts of current Arsenal fans. Arriving from Borussia Dortmund and playing the last few months of Arsene Wenger’s tenure, the Gabon international has travelled a long way with Arsenal already.

However, fans will rightfully believe that he hasn’t travelled far enough, especially with rumours circulating that he could be on the move this summer. The likes of Chelsea, Manchester United and Barcelona are all thought to be interested.

A new report from Calciomercato suggests that now Inter Milan are interested in signing him, with Antonio Conte thought to be a big advocate of his abilities. This should come as good news to fans, though, as it could present Mauro Icardi going the other way (should Paris Saint-Germain choose not to sign him permanently, of course).

More from Arsenal FC

I, personally, am here for this to go ahead. Think about it; Icardi is much younger than Aubameyang, entering the prime stages of his career at 27 years old. Arsenal certainly wouldn’t miss out on Aubameyang’s goals either since Icardi is also a prolific goal scorer. It also means that the Gunners wouldn’t have to witness their star man playing for a league rival.

I know what you’re thinking. But Icardi brings a toxic atmosphere wherever he goes, right? I mean, yeah, you would be right in saying so. But let’s not forget, we thought exactly the same thing about Aubameyang when he first arrived. He only improved the atmosphere behind the scenes, but this season his activities off the pitch have been a little questionable.

Having a direct replacement for Aubameyang, especially in a market like this, will come in handy. The report doesn’t go into too much depth over the financial side of things, which I can assume is only a good thing. Let’s hope so anyway because Icardi would be a great addition to the squad and I would welcome him with open arms.
