Arsenal fans aren’t going to like Atletico Madrid’s intentions…
This transfer window was never going to be one for sensational transfers to go ahead. Particularly as an Arsenal fan, it would be naive to think that the board would pull through and secure a blockbuster transfer, particularly when this is never the case, even in “normal” market conditions.
The truth is, clubs will need to be scarce with their resources this summer. The impact of the Coronavirus outbreak on the transfer market is bound to be phenomenal. Unlike anything we’ve seen before, and most deals will probably go ahead on a swap-basis.
It’s thought that Atletico Madrid will set out to achieve a swap deal for their in-demand midfielder Thomas Partey. However, unfortunately for the Gunners, they are interested in no Arsenal players. According to the Sun, the Madrid side wishes to swap Partey for Liverpool midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain this summer.

Not only is this a blow for us in regards to potentially not signing Partey but, they want the Ox? A player we sold to Liverpool just a few seasons ago? Honestly, this is just the luck of us fans and it’s laughable at this stage.
Of course, this doesn’t mean Arsenal will give up in their pursuit of Partey, or at least I would hope not. Atletico Madrid has been interested in signing Alexandre Lacazette for a long time, even before he signed for the Gunners.
That said, if Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang stays beyond this summer, then we can afford to lose Lacazette. He could just as easily be involved in a swap deal involving Partey, since it would benefit all parties involved.
Partey would be an excellent midfielder for Mikel Arteta. While I don’t hold high hopes, one can dream. Partey’s involvement in the attacking third is what makes him an attractive proposition since he is one of the finest progressive passers in La Liga.
Do you think Arsenal will sign Thomas Partey this summer?
