Luka Jovic returned to Real Madrid training injured, adding another chapter in a transfer-gone-wrong saga.

When Real Madrid first signed Luka Jovic from Eintracht Frankfurt, the club had snatched up one of the most promising young strikers in Europe. He and Joao Felix had taken the football world by storm and Jovic was making the jump to one of the biggest teams in Europe.

He was a signing not only for the future but for the here-and-now and was seen as the successor for Karim Benzema. Things haven’t exactly worked out that way. The €60 million man has failed to live up to expectations and has only scored twice for Real Madrid in 24 appearances.

He made headlines during the shut down for being caught violating the stay-at-home orders in his home country of Serbia and has made headlines once again in his return to training.

More from Real Madrid

The club confirmed that Jovic suffered a foot injury while at home and, according to The Guardian, the injury is in his heel bone. The interesting part is that the medical team are still unaware of how he picked up the injury.

The injury is yet another setback for Jovic’s disappointing season at Real Madrid and is set to be sidelined for several weeks. According to his father, his latest setback is taking a toll on him.

"“He is depressed and a little scared. He was preparing at home in Belgrade according to the training program he received from the club and during exercise, he felt great pain.”Source: Goal"

Jovic Sr went on to say that his son was preparing hard to come back and be the player he was at Eintracht Frankfurt and this injury has derailed his efforts.

Despite the disappointing season so far, coupled with the injury, Jovic is still drawing interest from other clubs. If Real Madrid do decide to cut bait after one season, there is a market out there for him.

According to Diario AS, AC Milan have sounded out the club about Jovic joining them next season. Madrid are not completely unopposed to a move but it seems that they would only be willing to let him leave on loan.

For what it’s worth, manager Zinedine Zidane has spoken to Jovic and assured him that he still enters into his plans. Any move now would simply be to get him more playing time.

Anyone can have a bad season. It simply gets compounded because of how much is spent on someone and the club they go to. Luka Jovic is only 22-years-old. It would be short-sighted to move him on now after only 24 games.
