Barcelona handed a significant boost in their chase for Inter Milan striker Lautaro Martinez.

The first domino to fall for Barcelona, if everything goes according to plan, will be Lautaro Martinez. The club have been after him for a while now and have had discussions with his current club, Inter Milan.

While a deal has yet to be reached, should the Argentinian leave Inter, it will be for Barcelona and Barcelona only. According to Mundo Deportivo, Martinez has told Inter that if he is only willing to leave Inter for the Catalan side. He’s also told them to only listen to offers from Barcelona and no one else.

This is a good sign for the club as other teams like PSG and Manchester City are also said to be interested in him.  A deal would be too expensive at the moment for PSG and the Champions League ban for Man City is going to be a deterrent for any top-rated player.

More from FC Barcelona

Sport are reporting that Inter are putting pressure on Barcelona to get a deal done as quickly as possible. The reason being is that Inter want to have time to find a replacement for Martinez as well as use some of that fee to find reinforcements in other areas of the pitch.

From Inter’s perspective, it makes sense. They do not want this transfer saga to linger on and leave them scrambling if a deal is reached later than they would have hoped. Also, the further it takes, the higher the probability that Martinez might start to feel resentment towards Inter.

The last thing they want is a sulking player who had his dream of joining another club dashed despite him saying he’s fine with staying put if the two sides cannot come to an agreement.

Since the start of the negotiations, Barcelona knew that they were not in a position to pay the full release clause of €111 million. Their plan all along is to include one or two players to reduce the cash amount they would need to pay.

Arturo Vidal is one player who is to Inter and Antonio Conte’s liking and if a few players are ultimately included, he’s likely to be one of them.

With Martinez deciding that he only wants to play for Barcelona, then the ball is in their court and it will be up to them to get a deal done.
