As Arsenal look to replace their prolific striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, they have received a blow for one of their main transfer targets…

Those who follow Arsenal’s transfer news closely will know that one pattern seems to be emerging; the quest for a striker. This is no coincidence either since we know the Gunners run the risk of losing Aubameyang this summer.

With reports linking the Gabon international to the likes of Chelsea and now Real Madrid, Arsenal must think carefully about how they can best replace him. I mean, the priority should remain with keeping him but you can’t always get what you want in this world.

According to a new report from Le Parisien, Paris Saint-Germain are hoping to make their loan deal of Mauro Icardi permanent, meaning he will no longer be available from Inter Milan.

While it was always a spectacular news story, there were once rumours linking Icardi with a move to the Emirates Stadium, with Aubameyang going the other way. I was a big fan of this option, although I know it would have taken some doing.

If the French reports are to be believed, then Arsenal mustn’t take it as too much of a blow. I know the fans will, and I certainly will. However, the board must do their best to recuperate and add another option to the shortlist, with Edinson Cavani potentially an option, inferring from this news that he is surplus to requirements at the Parc des Princes.

I can definitely see why Paris Saint-Germain wish to sign Icardi permanently. He is likely to be available at a reduced price, given his desire to move away from Milan. While things haven’t been exactly smooth-sailing for him in the French capital, he has certainly impressed and provided the goals on the pitch. This is the main thing.
