Liverpool: This Roma attacker is not the answer for Jurgen Klopp

Liverpool fans shouldn’t get too excited by this Roma forward…

It’s pretty much chip-paper news now that Liverpool needs to sign a backup attacker. For all their strengths, their weakness remains the lack of depth in their fearsome attack. This needs to be fixed, otherwise, other Premier League clubs will pounce on their vulnerabilities.

Xherdan Shaqiri was signed to add some much-needed depth to the frontline and while he has impressed while playing, he’s injured more than the players he’s supposed to be replacing. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain also does a job on the wing but for some reason, he seems adamant that he’s a midfielder just because he can score a few worldies. It’s confusing to me.

That said, Liverpool is showing interest in some attackers, which is positive to see. First, it was Timo Werner, then Jadon Sancho and now, according to Sports Mole, it’s Nicolo Zaniolo.

While the name may roll off the tongue, he certainly wouldn’t roll into the starting XI. Then again, not many attackers would given the vast talent Liverpool possess. However, like Shaqiri, Zaniolo is very injury prone so Jurgen Klopp should be sceptical about signing him.

Of course, Zaniolo is only young. 20 years old, to be exact. So he has plenty of time to work on his fitness and build up his resilience. However, suffering a few injury setbacks this early into his career is a dangerous red flag that Klopp must consider.

I highly doubt that Liverpool will lose any of their three star attackers this season, although there was talk that Sadio Mane could be on the way out. Given the current climate of the transfer market, I don’t think there’s any club in the world that would be willing to go ahead with this blockbuster move.

That said, is Zaniolo essential? Not really, not at this point in time. However, as Liverpool inevitably suffer injury setbacks in the new season, it may be worthwhile to sign one or two backup attackers who could do the job, providing they aren’t injured, of course.
