Manchester United make their top transfer target clear

Manchester United fans should be excited by this…

Those that follow the Manchester United transfer news closely will know that two positions tend to crop up more often than others; those being the centre back and centre forward roles. This is because these are the positions which Ole Gunnar Solskjaer‘s lacks most.

But there’s no longer a need for fans to worry, because according to Express, Manchester United is prioritising a move for a centre back this summer, and Solskjaer has made it clear he wants that centre back to be Kalidou Koulibaly of Napoli.

Alongside Harry Maguire, who in himself has been relatively poor at times, United don’t have anyone who can lead the defence as much as the Englishman. That said, bringing in an experienced Serie A defender will only benefit the team in the long-run.

Koulibaly is one of the most sought-after defenders in the world and it’s for good reason. He is a brute defender, one that isn’t afraid to put his body on the line to get the ball. He is also good at reading the game so he knows how to best position himself to cut out any passes, as well as being a good passer of the ball himself.

There are still, of course, other options for Manchester United to consider. Those names include Samuel Umtiti, Dayot Upamecano and Jerome Boateng. However, Koulibaly is certainly the pick of the bunch (although he will likely be the most expensive and it’ll be difficult to negotiate with Serie A teams over the sale of their players).

Whether United sign Koulibaly or not remains to be seen, I personally think they won’t pull it off due to the climate of the market. However, one thing’s for sure, the fans can feel fulfilled by this, it shows the board and the manager know what they’re doing and are listening to the fans’ concerns.
